Q&A: Can I get wifi on the iphone with no contract not using home router?|home router

I mean like in the car on the highway

Answer by pc geek
If you are at a location with free wifi yes you can

Answer by Bala S
Only with the iPhone 3G. That’s the whole top of the whole 3G business, but if you’re in a really rural area, than you probably won’t have internet either way since you aren’t near any towers. Also, without a router, the internet might be really slow too and it might not be able to play videos, but really, it all depends on where you are.

I have in my possesion an iPod Touch.

The iPod Touch is the first iPod that can use WiFI to go on the internet. I absolutely like this feature in this area the iTouch, but i DONT have any WiFI nearly my home!

I hear the Wireless Router is What makes WiFi and i was wondering if that is the best product to use if i want WiFi at home.

Answer by EAGarcia (Sagittarius)
yes, in order for your pc to receive wifi you have to buy wifi adapter. you connect the modem to wireless router, to get wifi internet. also share your internet hotspot with others that cannot afford it.

Answer by datamanipulator
Yes, a wireless router would complex a wireless network in your house from which you can access the Internet, assuming that you connect the router to your modem.

Answer by watchamakalit_beibe
Well if you already have an internet connection at home and if the modem your by is not wireless competent then yes, you would need a router that’s wireless competent.

Answer by Deverill
I wouldn’t get the wireless net etc just for the ipod but yes as it would cost a lot. But yes, it would work.

I am pretty sure you can get Wifi adaptors which will just plug into the USB slot on your computer. I had one for my Nintendo DS.

Mylaptop also gives off wifi signals which is pretty sweet.

Excellent luck.

Answer by violet
yeah use a router….they all work in this area the same…so just get a reasonable priced one.

Q&A: How to create a home network using my router?|home router

Q&A: How to create a home network using my router?|home router

I have a wireless-g broadband Router wrt54g, a laptop (xp), and a desktop (xp).

I want to share my Documents and all kind of staff.

May anyone tell me how to connect my computers step by step in order to make a simple home network when a can share my files and printer.

I heard one cannot network vista and xp, is that right?

thanks a lot everyone you always help me up…

Answer by Lode Sprinter
Its really simple.

1) Enable DHCP on your router. (Default is on)
2) Connect both PCs to the router
3) Enable File and Printer allotment in Windows (Vista and XP)
4) Dredge up to have the same workgroup name
5) Make sure you assign you shared folders as “Public or Shareable”

That’s prettty much it, as far as I retract. If not, send me an email.

Answer by Dr. X
Computer networking is a splendid way to work together with other computer users in your home or office. Even as it is apt increasingly simple for the basic computer user, it can still be a hard, frustrating experience for many public.

Steps

1. Shape on what type of network you wish to bed in. We will be covering how to bed in a wireless network counting 2 desktop computers, 1 laptop, and a High Speed Internet (HSI) connection. If you wish to bed in a wired network, this blue-collar is not for you.

2. Hold the following bits and pieces for your Wireless Network:

* Wireless router (with switch)

* 2 PC wireless adapters for the desktop computers

* 1 Laptop wireless adapter for the wireless laptop

3. Connect the wireless router to your High Speed Connection by rotary off all units, counting the computers. Austerely use an Ethernet cable (which usually comes with your High Speed Internet Connection) to connect your HSI modem to the WAN port on your wireless router.

4. Open your desktop computers and bed in the PC adapters, or hold USB adapters that do not require you to open your computer. Also bed in any necessary software on each machine. Grown-up operating systems need some drivers installed.

5. Bed in the wireless PC card in your laptop, and bed in the included software. Then, shut down all computers.

6. Turn on your new bits and pieces in this order:

* 1. Your HSI modem (wait for all illumination to return to normal).

* 2. Your New Wireless Router (wait for it to initiation up completely).

* 3. The computers. They must find the wireless router and connect to the network and the internet through the new router.

Tips

* To make a network that does not include internet access (or to ensure that your computers are really networked), be sure to enable Photograph and File Allotment on all computers. This is done differently on the Macintosh, Linux and the Windows platform.
o
+ For Windows XP and Vista, go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections (click “Switch to Classic View” if you cannot see the Network Connections icon) > right click on your Local Area Connection ethernet adapter > Properties > check File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks > Click “OK”
+ For Macintosh OS X, click on the Apple menu on the Menu Bar and click on “System Preferences…”. Then, click on “Allotment”. Then you may select which benefit that you want to be shared on your wireless network. For further help, click on the Apple Help Page link for allotment on your wireless network. Apple Allotment Help

Warnings

* Rotary on your gear in the incorrect order may maybe cause your new complex to not work! Be sure to potential on each item in order. It really does matter.

* Dredge up to set up your WEP (preferably WPA) security settings to preclude unauthorized access to your network

* Also dredge up to exchange the default passwords and usernames on your wireless router. Many wardrivers will travel nearly finding hotspots and then trying the default codes for that type of access top. This may maybe result in you getting safe and signal out of your own router and having to manualy reset your network.

What do you reckon? Answer below!

I recently bought a Cingular HP iPAQ 6515. If I get a wifi card for it, will I then be able to access the internet on the other side of my house by my pre-unfilled internet connection, which is DSL from our local buzz companionship? We have a wireless DSL modem which is also a router and currently have 2 desktop computers operating from this modem/router, but these are in close proximity to each other and connected via an ethernet cable. I’d like to be able to use my iPAQ for internet functions when I’m in other parts of the house, but I didn’t want to pay Cingular an extra monthly charge for data-connect services if I’m able to connect to my DSL benefit at home. If a wifi card will enable me to do this, can you urge which one works best with the iPAQ 6515? Thank you for your help.

Answer by Doug W
You’re DSL modem isn’t wireless. You have to buy a wireless router such as a Linksys WRT54GS, and the wifi card.

On top of that, if it’s cingular branded, then no. They want you to use their benefit. For the price of the Ipaq you may maybe have probably bought yourself a laptop.

Answer by mranswerguy
If you’re router is wireless then it must work fine. Expect signal strength to vary but, based a lot on the quality of all parts involved and the construction of the house. They seem to really limit the transmission signal, but you can pick up modest signal boosters to place nearly the house if need be (more cash of course). Even in my tiny apartment construction, I find wireless to be a modest weak, and I have problems maintaining a connection reliably, mainly agreed that there are other broadcasters in the area. Still, it beats running cords all over the place.

Answer by Todd G
I did not know that they had come out with the wifi card for this unit. But when it is out, then you must have no conundrum connecting to any wireless Internet connection that you have the password for or for wireless access points without password safeguard (ie Atlanta Bread Co….etc)

As far as your home network, you need to make sure that it is in fact wireless competent and able to receive signals throughout your house. I have a range expander to get the signal strong enough to enable me to sit on the porch or upstairs.

Unfortunately, you will find that you will want to surf on your buzz at other locations that do not have a hot spot and that will mean that you will have to pay cingular. And if you plot to do a lot of surfing, then it is worth it. But if you ONLY plot to use the buzz to surf at your house away from your desktop connection, save yourself the time and get an inexpensive laptop. It will only run you a link of more hundred than the buzz and the Internet will be just so like your desktops. You will quickly tire of the tiny screen and the minimal graphics that you get on your buzz. The Internet was not predestined for phones. Just the ability to stay in touch.

Answer by woodluvto
You must be able to connect to any wireless connection. The distance away from the router may have an impact. I was not able to use my wireless throughout my house until I bought a more commanding “N” router.

The ancient ones (the “G” routers) just weren’t commanding enough to send the signal throughout the whole house.

Once you have everything connected like how the router manual tells you to do, you can go into the “Network” properties under the control panel and there is a wizard to help you set up a home network.

Start on the Vista machine, follow the directions. Then do the same on the XP machine.

Answer by Sting Inc.
Is your router a separate entity to your laptop? You should have your laptop and PC connected to the router, and the router connected to the modem.

If this is the case… you can still run your notebook wirelessly from the router without your PC… as its the router that gives you internet not your PC. Make sense? :)

Answer by sharkpeeps
No its not the same exact number but it will be different number like if yours is 101, theirs will be like 102. If you don’t want them on then block them by going into your router, no matter what the instruction booklet says like for develop 192.168.1.1 and putting a password on it.

Answer by JoelKatz
The ISP didn’t assign a public IP address to the computer connected to the router. The ISP assigned a public IP to the router. Since they’re by the same router, they’ll have the same public IP address.

Can I do it with just the router?

Answer by lilmissinsanity
go to the website for linskys. you probably just need a driver
or its just in your settings

Answer by chustplayin
It sounds like you aready have them both on your network. If that is right, then the hard part is done.

You’ll need to have the printer hooked up to one of the computers. It needs to be installed and working on that computer. You also have to go into the settings for that printer, and allow the printer to be “shared.”

The next business you do is go to the other computer and go to Initiation…..Printers…. and have Windows search for a network printer. It must find your printer on the other computer.

You need to have the computer with the printer turned on if you want to photograph from the following computer.

I don’t know no matter what business when it come to having a laptop. So how do you get wireless internet? Also if you have wifi on you laptop and I have a belkin router connected on my home computer would I still need to get an adapter for the laptop? If I do need to get an adapter for the laptop does it need to be made by the same companionship belkin?

Answer by Chip
No adapters needed. Your laptop can already converse wirelessly with your router.

In the lower aptly confront of your screen is a modest icon that will look a lot like the signal meter on your cell buzz. Aptly-click it and select “view unfilled wireless networks”. that will list all the wifi hotspots that your laptop can see. Click on your belkin router (it will probably have “belkin” in the name and it must have the strongest signal on the list) and the computer will do the rest for you.

Answer by Bassman1
If your lap top has WiFi it has wireless card and you do not need an adapter.
The WiFi wireless card or a wireless adapter does not have to be made / manufactured by the same companionship as the router to connect they are all well-matched.
How to complex a wireless connection: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-complex-a-wireless-connection

Answer by Player One
If your laptop has wifi then it is fine and can get internet no conundrum.

For wireless internet the only business you need is a wireless router in your home to send the internet into the air for your laptop to pick up.
If your home computer is directly physically plugged into the router then it’s possible that you don’t have a wireless router in your home.

To get the internet on your laptop you need to, either go out and buy a wireless router (which can still be plugged into your home computer too) to replace your ancient one, or plug your laptop directly into your unfilled router. You can take the plug out of your home computer (it looks like a touchtone phone cable) and plug it into the socket on your laptop, that must give you internet.

p.s. no you don’t need to buy the same manufacturer stuff but belkin stuff is excellent and it will be simpler if it’s all the same brand.

I’ve been kicked off the internet at home a bit more lately than before..and I wonder if it’s since of all the diplomacy I’ve got connected. Like iphones, tv boxes, and pcs. Any thought?

Answer by John C
Most ISPs restrict the number of connection to 5!

Answer by icez
Theoretically you can have thousands…but it will only slow down if the diplomacy are all by the connection at the same time to do something.

It may maybe be issues with your ISP, or maybe if you changed where you take your laptop or where your PCs are in your house. Or maybe you changed where the wireless router is, there might be more interference which screws with the wireless signals.

Answer by Thomas K
Most connections – determined by how many addresses are configured in DHCP, the limit is in this area 250.

Kicked off the internet – probably something that the ISP is doing. A former ISP used this method to temporarily fix slow response times. Boot everyone off and the first those who reconnected got very excellent benefit for a even as until everyone else joined back in.
They were not adding bandwidth as quick as they were signing up new customers.

Answer by Adi
As many as you want but if you are going to have more than like 3 or 4 online it can slow down depending on how excellent of a router it is but some routers can have alot of computers on wireless networks such as the ones they would have at schools or buisnesses

Answer by DaveEC
Who kicks you off? You also don’t say what kind of benefit. DSL is going to be very slow if you have more than a link of diplomacy. Cable can handle 5-10 diplomacy assuming none of them are into very heavy use.

If you inquiry was in this area interference, then its trivial. But as long as you dont have the wireless routers within a meter of one another, you shouldnt have a conundrum.

Well if you want increased signal range and fatsre speeds go for the 802.11n router. You will also need a 802.11n wireless adapter to take advantage of the speed and range increase.

If you want to go with 802.11g then they will all more or less the same. There is a Rangebooster G Develop from D-Link.

I prefer to use D-Limks for myself.

First of all, if a name told you that an XP machine cannot be be networked with another XP-machine, I would advise you to stop going to that person for computer-related questions. You can, and it’s so simple that it’s very nearly automatic. The operating systems for each PC just needs to be told to talk to each other by running the Networking Wizard (run the wiz on each computer you want talking to each other). The difficulties occur (usually) when things further than of the operating systems interfere with your networking activities (mainly an improperly configured firewall in each computer). How are you preparation to network them? Ad Hoc? Router? etc… Why are you trying to network them? If you just want to irregularly share files, then networking may be more distress than its worth. If you need to constantly (daily, regularly) access assets from PC to PC, then networking may be advisable. If you judge the one who told you that an XP system cannot be networked with another XP system, then I can’t help you.

ok, a computer is a computer, you can make them talk to each other even if you have Vista, XP, MAC, Lindows etc. as long as you have a way of having them to talk to each other, which you do.. a router, it will do all the routing for you since that usually is a switch (network switch) by itself, once you have them able to notice(see) the router that switch on it will involuntarily route the traffic either internet traffic or LAN traffic. All you need is a wireless adapter on your wireless pc’s a link of LAN cables and thats it. Nowadays its plug and play windows will auto notice that router (mainly vista) and MAC. And better initiation going to that person for advise a propos computer networks. Go online, find forums, youll find more answers than questions. Its not geeky to play nearly with computer networks its going to be a part of life soon.

Check your assets again since Microsoft would be absolutely hanging themselves by making an operating systems that don’t work with there grown-up operating systems. They do network together and whoever told you they don’t shouldn’t be charitable anyone in rank

again. My computer is with bellsouth and my laptop is by other wifi networks to use internet. how can i make it so tht i can use my router from my home computer as i wifi network i can connect to from my laptop?

Answer by Tigersharke
It depends on your current complex.

You must have a modem or gateway device from Bell South. Your router must be connected by Ethernet cable to the modem. If your router is wireless (provides a wifi signal) and your laptop has a wireless adapter built-in or attached, then it is mostly a matter of background some network details on your laptop and making sure your router will allow access.

Detailed instructions are in the source associations below.

Answer by Dr. Metal PHD
Connect your modem to your router’s WAN or Internet port, then connect your home computer (your desktop computer) to port 1. I’m not sure what router you’re by but on my Linksys, I use the address 192.168.0.1 to connect to my router through a web browser. Go into your router’s wifi/wireless settings and make sure it is set up to broadcast a wireless signal. Give the signal a name and make sure it is also secure by adding a password to it. Then hit the Save/Apply pin, whichever is at the bottom of the page.
Once the wireless network is set up, open up the wireless connections on your laptop and search for the network you just made, connect, enter the password and you must be excellent to go.

Q&A: Does my router show my home computer information from my laptop?|home router

I mean, does my internet browsing or documents I work on show up on my home computer which the router i am by to connect to the internet wirelessly is connected to?

Answer by dotsnail
only certain things like IP address, browser type, operating system. these are required for a ma?tre d’h?tel concentration to send the assess html/javascript to the browser.

everything else on your pc is hidden from the browser, except you actively upload a file.

Give your answer to this inquiry below!

I read that WEP is not safe, as well as WPA-PSK. It’s costly to have WPA or WPA2 with RADIUS ma?tre d’h?tel for home user. VPN would be a excellent thought, but VPN client software is pricey for Netgear wireless router (the only affordable wireless router with VPN).

So, I don’t know what the clad options are for my below $ 100 budget. All I have in mind is something with:

- Dual active Firewall (NAT and SPI).
- Intrusion Detection (IDS).
- WPA and WPA2 (PSK type, I guess).
- Ability to disable SSID broadcast and DHCP ma?tre d’h?tel.
- Logging feature of clients that request connection.
- Access plot control (help VLAN).

If it’s possible I still want the VPN, but I’m just daydreaming probably. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Wireless is fantastic, but not as quick, secure, or reliable as wired networks. This shows the approximate locations and very approximate routes for the cables. We’ll probably use Cat 6 wire and a gigabit switch, just to reduce the time until we want to upgrade.

The nearly illegible yellow says "Mesh to House". We use a mesh network (Sveasoft) to share internet connections with another home, with my satellite backing up their quicker microwave connection. As of now, if you are on the mesh you can everyone’s shared files. With the new plot, the home network will be cut off from browsing by mesh users.
