It depends which router model you have. Some can and some can’t…. typically to be able to you need to be comfortable telnetting in and using the command line interface. Clarify with details or just shoot me an email. I’m a network tech.

I am moving and of course have to take away from each other my home network set up, but in what order do I have to turn of the router and the modem. I know I did that incorrect before and it was a hassle background the network back up. I hope a name can help, thank you for your input .

when re connecting connect modem 1st so it has a signal. then hook router to it and let it boot up then connect pc that way when u get pc connected u are excellent to go .

I can’t judge it caused any problems before since they just do their business until thy find their signal. Mine are on a potential strip and go on at the same time, but if you really want a preference, Modem first so it can associate with the DSL network and then the router, which has the passwords for the modem in my case. Some of the newer modems have the passwords stored in them directly. I leave mine on full time except a storm is in the area
