I am by a UTSTAR adsl wireless router modem with BSNL broad band benefit in India.

To get a excellent coverage where must I place the wireless router.

Please let me know the best location at home.

Higher place is better ?
Must I avoid placing it over a steel cup·enter or cabinet.?

Also DOs and DON’Ts even as placing it.

The best place is in the middle of the computers that you are connecting to it. If this isn’t possible but, the best place is in the middle of your house. Avoid placing the router too close to any metal or thick parapet, as these will lower the range of the signal. Ensure the aerials are pointing directly upwards, as this allows them to spread the signal evenly.

And yes, avoid the steel cabinet as the metal will absorb some of the signal.

Keep it inner to your house, and away from any parapet. If you have a cordless touchtone phone, or a microwave, i would suggest maintenance it away from either of these too. They can both operate in the same frequency range as the wireless spectrum.
Placing it on a steel cabinet will probably make your greeting of poorer quality, as it would stop the signal from travelling through efficiently.

My router is Located in the Inner part of the house, for ordinary significance sake, that way I can get an over all clad coverage no matter where I am inside. Plus try to avoid placing your Router near the Base of a Wireless Phones or no matter what business wireless of that nature due to some possible interference with the signal. And if you have a two tale house, place the router in the lower level, since router wireless signals work upwards.

Hope this helps.

It doesn’t really matter what brand it is there are a lot of all-purpose policy of thumb for positioning a wireless router.
- keep it where it will get some air flow to keep from overheating
- Putting it high is a excellent thought and maintenance it from being blocked by metal will help.
- test it, sometimes you can get better greeting from a lower of different location. I have mine in the basement and it works well.

It really all depends on your circumstances, what the house is made from and other environmental issues. It may work well on top of the metal cabinet since something else is counteracting the cabinet and if you have metal studs or lath in the wall that may be of poorer quality even if you place it on top of a wooden cabinet. Test it by moving it nearly and moving nearly your home with your laptop.

Here are the unboxing pics, as well as some proceedings shots, of the sexy Belkin N1 Thought wireless router.

I got the Belkin N1 Thought as a replacement for my dull (even if honestly dependable) ZyXEL MIMO router.

In all, it looks excellent, but the WEP security background is incompatible with my MacBook Pro and unstable with some Windows XP laptops in the home. Switching it to WPA1 (not WPA2) makes is more well-matched.

It feels excellent to be able to see what’s going on through the network. Finally considering the invisible!
